Why use expanded clay balls for plants?

To start using expanded clay balls, you must first rinse them with clean tap water . You should use a large strainer until you see clean water falling without the brown color. A container is then prepared by filling it with osmosis or distilled water with a pH adjusted to 5.5. This is where the previously washed clay is poured and left to soak for about 48 hours . It will be necessary to lower the pH until it stabilizes at 5.5 , since the clay balls will try to raise it to 7. Once it is definitively stabilized, the balls will be ready to use. You can place a couple of fingers of clay at the base of the cutting propagator so that they do not become soaked with water from the bottom of the tray. This way you will also enjoy high humidity due to the evaporation of water at the bottom.

Expanded clay balls are also ideal for hydroponic cultivation , filling mesh pots. In this type of cultivation, the pots are filled to the top and the seeds or cuttings are planted in rock wool plugs. It is an inert medium that can be used as many times as you want , as long as you clean the remains of plant roots that you have harvested. The pH should be stabilized at 5.5 before placing the plants if you start a crop with new clay.
