• What size of installation does the Cellfast Hydro Set cover?

  This kit from the Hydro range is set up to cover runs of up to 50 metres. It is the right choice when your installation goes beyond what an ordinary household kit can handle. Think vegetable plots, long planting rows or fairly large gardens.

• Why does drip irrigation use less water?

  Because the water is delivered slowly and directly into the root zone, instead of spreading across the whole surface. That cuts consumption compared with sprinklers or a hose. And since the foliage stays dry, the water is used where it is really needed.

• What kind of growing is it designed for?

  It is designed for vegetable plots, long planting rows and large gardens, where the plants are spread out over quite a few metres. Its reach of up to 50 metres lets you cover entire rows without coming up short. If your grow is just a few pots, a smaller kit will be plenty.

• Is it better than watering with a hose or sprinklers?

  On a large planting, drip is usually more efficient: it puts the water right at the base of each plant and avoids wetting leaves and flowers. That means lower consumption and a more even distribution along the whole line. A hose, by contrast, depends very much on whoever is doing the watering.

• What maintenance does the system need?

  As this is a drip system, it is worth checking from time to time that the watering points are still delivering flow and that the line has not been kinked. A quick check at the start of the season saves you surprises for the rest of the year. Beyond that, the system runs very much on its own.
